Care Manager

I started my career as a nurse having qualified as a Registered Nurse in 1987. For seven years I was a Practice Nurse at a GP practice before I started my family. When I returned to work, I decided to become a carer working for a domiciliary care agency providing hourly care to older people, where I progressed my career and became a Care Manager. I joined Oxford Aunts in 2019 and whilst my previous care role gave me good experience, I am thrilled to be working for a provider that offers quality live-in care, that truly enhances the lives of its clients.

As Care Manager at Oxford Aunts, I am responsible for ensuring our clients and their families have a dedicated point of contact who truly understands their requirements and can support their service. I have a deep understanding of our carers, not just in terms of their skills and experience, but their personalities and values. This means I can effectively match our carers with clients to ensure, not just their care needs are met but that the carer is aligned to how the client wishes to live their life. I work closely with our Care Assessor which means our clients have a highly personalised care plan that accurately reflect their needs. As part of our multidisciplinary approach to care I work closely with other healthcare professionals, including district nurses, physiotherapist and occupational therapists to ensure a holistic approach to care delivery.

Care Assessor

I am originally from New Zealand, where I started my career in a hospital setting where I was a Senior Care Assistant in a Specialist Dementia Care Unit. I decided to come to the UK to develop my career further in care, whilst spending time with my grandparents.

I joined Oxford Aunts in November 2015 as a live-in carer. Having researched a number of live-in care providers to potentially work for, Oxford Aunts was the stand- out choice given its reputation for providing high-quality care in Oxfordshire. I have been supported by the team in my role and afforded an opportunity to develop my career and I am now a Care Assessor. I feel privileged to support people to live safely and happily in the comfort of their own home, with all the benefits that brings. I am proud to be part of the Oxford Aunts team, who have the welfare of their clients at heart.

As a Care Assessor at Oxford Aunts, I am responsible for ensuring our clients can live well in their own homes with care and support from our live-in carer, whilst providing both the client, their families and our carers any support they may need. From the initial assessment of a client’s needs to the on-going review of our service, I provide high levels of support to ensure the standards of care Oxford Aunts are renowned for.

I have an NZQA National Certificate in the Support of the Older Person.

COMPASSIONATE AND FULLY-TRAINED CARERS IN ABINGDON

At Oxford Aunts, we understand how important it is to have a carer with the knowledge and experience to provide unrivalled support. For that reason, we ensure that all our carers have at least six months of professional experience. We also have a thorough recruitment process, where only 2% of applicants pass our comprehensive selection criteria.

During our thorough induction programme, our carers are trained in an array of modules, including first aid, complex conditions such as dementia, moving and handling, and end-of-life care. Some of our carers are qualified nurses, and many hold UK care qualifications. For further development, refresher training is offered annually to ensure our carers are up-to-date with best practices and continue to provide exceptional care.

Both our clients’ and carers’ well-being is extremely important to us, which is why we match our clients with local carers based on their preferences, experience, and values. We know this selective matching process results in a better overall care experience and improved client health outcomes.
