ANSWERING YOUR FAQ’S
Yes, we are regulated by the Care Quality Commission (CQC), the independent regulator of health and social care in England. We received a ‘Good’ CQC rating in all five categories for being safe, effective, caring, well-led and responsive to people’s needs at an inspection in November 2017, which was reassessed more recently in July 2023.
We know finding reliable, reputable, and trustworthy live-in carers is of the utmost importance to our clients. That’s why we’re committed to being upfront and transparent about the care we provide and publish information on the accreditations and awards we hold and our ratings.
Yes. Our fully managed and regulated live-in care service offers families reassurance at a time they need it most. Unlike introduction agencies, all our live-in carers are directly managed by us whilst they are caring for you. They are supported by a care management team who ensure they are supervised and supported to provide the high standards of care our clients should expect.
We operate throughout Oxford and its surrounding counties. Each regional team is made up of a dedicated care assessor local to you who is on hand to provide an unrivalled level of support to you, your family and our carer. They are supported by a care manager at our central office who handles all other aspects of care delivery to ensure a quality service is delivered, every time.
The cost of our live-in care is comparable to the cost of a good quality care home. In fact, many care homes are more expensive, especially when you factor in the many extras that care homes charge on top of the weekly care fee, which can make determining the exact annual cost of care in a care home difficult.
With a care home, you also need to bear in mind that part of your fee goes towards paying for your accommodation, whereas with live-in care, the total weekly fee goes solely towards your care.
For couples, live-in care is an ideal option as it allows you to continue living with your partner or spouse with minimal disruption. In a care home, you will likely need to pay for two packages of care and accommodation. With live-in care, you pay a weekly fee for a carer who can meet both your needs.

At Oxford Aunts, we value our carers and understand that to provide the best quality care to our clients, they need adequate time to rest and recuperate. Our live-in carers receive extended breaks with three hours off in a 24-hour period. This is usually taken when a client is resting in the afternoon.
Yes, we can provide waking night care, ensuring you or a loved one is safely cared for during the twilight hours. A waking night carer will spend the night awake in your home, ensuring they are on hand to provide immediate assistance should it be needed.
Depending on your preferences, the carer can stay in the same room you sleep in or close by, giving you and your loved one reassurance that someone is always close by to help.
Waking night care is often needed by people living with complex health care needs who may need support through the night or those who require supervision due to nighttime behaviours, such as wandering or sundowning.
We are very proud of our rigorous recruitment process and training provision that ensures our live-in carers provide the high-quality care we expect.
Our recruitment process
Our recruitment process ensures:
- Carers have previous care or nursing experience, as we know this means they have the aptitude to deliver the high-quality live-in care services we pride ourselves on.
- Carers are selected against a comprehensive set of criteria that explores their skills and experience as well as their background, interests and values.
- Potential carers undergo a Situational Judgement Test (SJT) that assesses their judgement in the context of delivering care to ensure they have what it takes to provide our standards of care.
- We obtain police checks in both the UK and the carer’s home country.
- Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) checks are completed.
Ongoing training and development
Once a carer has passed our rigorous recruitment process and checks, they:
- Must complete our industry-leading training, which has been created with leading charities and clinical experts and goes beyond the standard level of induction care.
- Receive any appropriate additional training to ensure they have the skills to support people living with complex conditions, like dementia, that may require more monitoring and higher levels of care and support.
- Are supported by us to continue learning and developing their skills to enhance the level of care they can provide.

Yes, we can provide carers who can drive. At Oxford Aunts, our priority is matching you with the right carer for your needs. So, whether you require assistance getting out and about to local groups or help running errands, we can make sure your carer has a full, valid driving licence so they can support you in continuing to live independently in the way that works for you.
We understand that receiving care can be daunting, especially when you have lived independently for so long. That’s why finding a carer who can not only support your care needs but who you can also trust and get along with is our number one priority.
To ensure we find the perfect carer for you, our care assessment involves asking detailed questions about the types of care and activities you need support with. We also take the time to get to know you, your preferences, and your daily routines. This comprehensive understanding allows us to match you with carers who not only meet your care needs but also align with your personality and interests.
We also ensure you can talk to the carer we have selected together on the telephone ahead of them coming to care for you in your home.
