Good news story: Making a Difference with Home Care

Becoming a carer can be an extremely rewarding path to take, as you get to build lasting relationships and most importantly put a smile on someone’s face.

Our carer Anca, shares her story about the difference she made to her clients life:

“I am Anca, and I am Mrs. S carer. Mrs S was stuck in her house for many years due to the pandemic, but also because she didn’t have a functional wheelchair. I started a rather long and difficult road for her to have access to the community.

Mrs S mobility is poor, a wheelchair was required for her to leave the house. After long delays, missed prescriptions and missed appointments, the NHS unfortunately failed to provide her with a wheelchair.

At this point, after talking with Mrs S and her daughter and explaining the benefits of having a wheelchair, they decided it was time to buy her one.  Mrs S has been in her wheelchair for a few months now, and her life has changed a lot for the better.

Every Wednesday I accompany Mrs S to the local day centre, where she meets her friends, socialises, serves lunch and gets involved with various activities.

Also, when the weather permits, I accompany Mrs S outside for a ride in her wheelchair. So the fact that I supported Mrs S with a functional wheelchair, the family got involved and supported me, and this combined made a huge difference to Mrs S’s well-being.”
