COMPANIONSHIP CARE FOR THE ELDERLY
At Oxford Aunts, we understand the profound impact that companionship can have on the well-being of seniors . Companionship care is designed to provide social, emotional, and practical support to older adults, ensuring they lead fulfilling and enriched lives. Our goal is to combat loneliness and enhance the quality of life through meaningful interactions and activities.
Oxford Aunts has been a trusted provider of elderly care for over 50 years. Our commitment to excellence and compassionate care has made us a leader in the industry. With a team of highly trained and dedicated carers, we offer personalised companionship care services that cater to the unique needs of each individual under our care.
One of the flexible and convenient options we offer is day carers, also known as hourly care at home. This service allows older individuals to receive personalised assistance while remaining in the comfort of their own homes.
WHAT IS COMPANIONSHIP CARE FOR THE ELDERLY?
Companionship care for the elderly focuses on providing older adults with regular social interactions and emotional support to enhance their overall well-being. As people age, they may experience increased feelings of loneliness and isolation, which can negatively impact their mental and physical health. Companionship care helps to alleviate these feelings by offering a friendly and supportive presence.
Our carers engage our clients in various activities that stimulate the mind and body, such as conversations, games, hobbies, and outings. This type of care not only helps to maintain cognitive function but also promotes a sense of belonging and joy. By providing consistent companionship, we help elderly individuals stay connected, active, and mentally engaged, significantly improving their quality of life.
WHO CAN BENEFIT FROM COMPANIONSHIP CARE?
Companionship care is ideal for older individuals who:
- Live Alone: Older adults who reside by themselves and may feel isolated.
- Have Limited Mobility: Individuals who have difficulty getting out and about.
- Experience Loneliness: Those who feel lonely or have minimal social interaction.
- Have Lost Loved Ones: Older adults coping with the loss of friends or family members.
- Require Emotional Support: Individuals in need of a friendly and supportive presence.

- Need Assistance with Daily Tasks: Those who could use help with routine activities to maintain independence
THE BENEFITS OF COMPANIONSHIP CARE FOR THE ELDERLY
EMOTIONAL WELL-BEING
Companionship care significantly improves mental health by providing seniors with regular social interactions. This helps reduce feelings of isolation and loneliness, promoting a sense of belonging and happiness. Our caregivers offer a friendly presence and a listening ear, fostering emotional stability and joy.
PHYSICAL HEALTH
Regular social engagement and activities can have a positive impact on physical health. Companionship care encourages seniors to stay active and involved, which can lead to improved mobility, better physical health, and a more active lifestyle. Our caregivers assist with light exercises and encourage participation in physical activities.
ENHANCED QUALITY OF LIFE
Companionship care goes beyond basic assistance; it enriches lives by introducing enjoyable activities and fostering connections. From playing games and hobbies to outings and social events, our caregivers ensure that seniors remain engaged and entertained, making every day meaningful.
OUR COMPANIONSHIP CARE SERVICES
According to Age UK, more than 2 million people in England over the age of 75 live alone, and more than a million older people say they go over a month without speaking to a friend, neighbour, or family member. To address this pressing issue, Oxford Aunts offers comprehensive companionship care services tailored to the needs of the elderly.
PERSONALISED CARE PLANS
We believe that every individual is unique. Our personalised care plans are tailored to meet the specific needs and preferences of each client. By understanding their interests and routines, we create a care plan that enhances their lifestyle and well-being.
DAILY ACTIVITIES AND SOCIAL ENGAGEMENT
Our companionship care includes a variety of activities designed to stimulate the mind and body. Whether it’s a walk in the park, a visit to a local café, or engaging in a favourite hobby, our carers ensure that each day is filled with enjoyable and purposeful activities.
ASSISTANCE WITH DAILY LIVING
While companionship is at the core of our services, we also provide assistance with daily tasks to promote independence. Our carers help with meal preparation, light housekeeping, medication reminders, and other routine activities, making daily life easier and more comfortable.
EMOTIONAL AND MENTAL SUPPORT
Our carers are trained to provide not only physical assistance but also emotional and mental support. Through conversation, companionship, and engaging activities, we help keep the mind active and promote cognitive health. We are here to offer a comforting presence and a supportive environment.
OUR COMPANIONSHIP CARE SERVICE
An Oxford Aunts’ experienced and dedicated carer will provide a range of care services in the comfort of your home including:
We know how important companionship is in our later years. Our compassionate and respectful carer will be matched to not only meet your care needs, but we look to match personalities and interests. We know this makes for a fulfilling and pleasurable way of life based on friendship and companionship. Whilst respecting your privacy, our carer is trained to support your psychological and emotional needs too.
Our carers are trained in management of medications, which is so important in supporting someone to live well in later life. They will proactively monitor and administer medications, ensuring they are effectively managed and any prescription required is ready as and when you need it. Peace of mind for everyone.
Whilst personal care relates to undertaking the day-to-day tasks of caring, including washing, bathing and getting dressed and undressed, it also considers a person’s confidence and self-esteem. There is nothing better than having freshly painted nails, or your hair styled how you like it – our carers will make sure you feel tip top every day.
Oxford Aunts carers have a strong understanding of falls prevention and how conditions can impact on mobility. In conjunction with our experienced Care Assessors, and liaison with multi-disciplinary teams, such as Occupational Therapists and Physiotherapists, we can ensure you receive the correct equipment at home. This will be life enriching and enable you to feel safe and secure when moving around your home.
Your live-in carer will carefully plan all your meals and will shop for the groceries as needed. They will then cook healthy, nutritious and enjoyable food, taking into account your likes and dislikes. Many of our clients and carers enjoy cooking together as a shared pastime. Unlike a care home, you will be able to eat as and when you like.
At Oxford Aunts we know how important it is that you keep connected to your local community – whether it is a local community group you have attended for years, a stroll around a much loved shop or sitting peacefully in a local park – our committed carers will facilitate your enjoyment outside of the home and support you to do as much as you wish.
With isolation a concern as we get older, our proactive carers will facilitate you having visitors as and when you wish. Whether it is a catch up with friends, or a family occasion or celebration our carer will meet all your socialisation needs so you can enjoy life at home.
Our carer will make sure your home is clean, tidy and well-kept to the standards you should expect. Everything from dusting, cleaning, vacuuming, washing and ironing to light garden work – our carer will ensure your home is looking its very best every day.
We know how important a much-loved pet is and how difficult caring for it may be when faced with other health concerns that are impacting day-to-day life. With an Oxford Aunts carer you can be assured that your pet will be well cared for, whilst you continue to get all the benefits and enjoyment from your beloved pet, as you always have.
It should be highlighted that live-in care does not necessarily mean 24/7 care. If you only require some assistance and not constant care, a live-in carer may still be suitable for your needs.
CONDITIONS WE CARE FOR
