Essential Qualities & Requirements
- Previous “hands on” personal care giving experience necessary to meet at
least skills level two requirements
- Cooking skills appropriate to older people or younger adults
- Ability to run a home and keep it clean
- Confident driver with clean driving licence
- Physically and mentally fit for the job and in good health
- Neat and tidy appearance
- Appropriate dress sense, grooming and personal hygiene
- Good command of spoken and written English
- Appropriate communication, observation and reporting skills
- An appreciation of people with care needs and the capacity to value them
as individuals
- Ability to understand and work with people from a range of cultural &
social backgrounds
- Ability to understand the beliefs, values, practices, customs and wishes
of people with care needs and to recognise that they may be different from own
- Ability to fit in and respect the chosen lifestyle and homes of people
with care needs and to respect their right to maintain choice, dignity,
privacy, and independence in their lives
- Kind, caring and sensitive approach

- Previous experience in caring for the elderly mentally infirm.
- Certificates in care work and manual handling or a nursing background are
desirable.
